There have been 20 reported attacks on dogs by an unknown animal in the central province of Quang Ngai since May 7, the Binh Dong Commune People’s Committee has said.
On the morning of May 8, Phan Thi Bich Ngoc of Son Tra village in Binh Dong Commune found one of her dogs killed in her yard. She said the dog was beheaded, and all of its internal organs were eaten.
Nguyen Cuong, her neighbor, also reported his four big dogs, each weighing 15kg to 20kg, were killed under the same circumstance.
Around 1 a.m. on May 9, other villagers in the area said they heard something that sounded like a roar, which lasted 15 minutes.
They also found numerous unidentifiable footprints with a 15cm diameter left in the sand around the village.
Other than domestic dogs, no cattle or humans have been attacked so far, the villagers said.
Nguyen Thi Hong Nhi, a 7th-grade student, said she is the only villager to see the beast.
“At around 8 p.m. on May 8, I was searching for some vegetables near the mountain when I saw a huge, black beast of around 40 to 50kg,” she said.
This mysterious animal has been seriously frightening the villagers. Some have locked themselves in their homes at night while others have temporarily moved to other areas.
The commune’s people’s committee said they have been trying to hunt the culprit, but have yet to find anything.
